Self-Portrait Sri Lanka
A film on post-tsunami Sri Lanka followed by a discussion with the programme makers. Star and Shadow Cinema, Newcastle upon Tyne on June 21st at 7.30pm

This film by Media 19 was first broadcast on Channel 4 and offers a unique insight into the ways people coping with life after the tsunami see themselves and describe their experiences. It was produced in partnership with the UK Department for International Development, British Council Sri Lanka, and a range of schools, agencies, media networks and projects in Sri Lanka. It aims to challenge perceptions of how countries categorised as 'developing' are seen from the so-called 'developed' world - offering insights which may be vital to the 'developed' world's survival strategies.
